A Typical Night Turned
Bad
It’s 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The sky is dark, the street lights are dim. A tall lanky man wearing black trousers and a stained beige polo walks out of the door of a 24 hour drug store. A name tag hangs loosely off of his polo. He walks out into the dark empty parking lot. A slight breeze passes and he begins to walk home as he usually does. A few cars pass as he continues to walk down the unpaved side of the road. The faint sound of a siren lingers in the still night air. The man slowly turns his head to look back. Behind him he sees a dark figure dressed in all black walking swiftly behind him. A feeling of fright fills his body. Not knowing what is to come the man picks up his pace to avoid the dark figure catching up to him. He turns around once more and is relieved to find the dark figure has vanished. The man breathes a sigh of relief and continues down the empty street.
Nearing closer to his home, the man reaches into his left trouser pocket and grabs his keys between his fingers. He walks up the creaky wooden steps to his small brown house. He opens the broken screen door to reveal what was once a white door but now grey with dirt. The man unlocks the round door handle and enters. Lights are off, the rooms are dark, just as he left them earlier that day. He walks into his kitchen, opens the door of his white refrigerator and pulls out a can of pop. He stands near the counter looking out the window into his dark backyard. Suddenly and instinctively he walks over to the light switch across the room and turns on a yellow porch light. Startled by what he sees, he blinks a few times, and sees a dark figure standing in his yard. The figures dark blue icy stare pierces through the mans body. The man jumps, looks for something he can use for protection and spies a black umbrella which he grabs as he sprints to the porch door. Quickly he flings open the door and leaps onto the stained wooden porch. His eyes dart left and right scanning the yard for the dark blue eyed figure. A waft of smoke floats in the outside air. Suddenly the man realizes something is burning. From the corner of his eye he spots a small flame coming from a shrub in the yard. The amber flame begins to spread through to the other plants, and within an instant the shrubbery is ablaze. Without a moment to spare the man darts into his house, grabs the phone and dials 911. No sound comes through the receiver. In a panic, the man runs to the sink, grabs the nearest bowl and fills it with water. He sprints back outside and throws the water on the flames. As fast as he can, he fills up the bowl again and continues to splash it. The water is no use, Orange amber light begins spreading quicker and quicker. Just as the bright fire is nearing closer to the man he abruptly turns around and sprints as fast as he can up the wooden porch steps and into the house. Just then a loud voice bellows into the darkness.
"Cut! Cut, everybody thats a wrap! Good work today! Now, put out that fire!"
The man laughs, a large smile on his face as he heads to his dressing room.
