Late Again?
Something that really irks me is tardiness. Slack, tardy, delayed, dilatory, held up, unpunctual, are just a few other ways to say your late. Slow is one thing, but lateness is pure laziness.
So why are people late? Is it because they have no concept of time, no organization, or is it just their character. I have come to the conclusion that when your late once, it sets you up for a chain of latenesses to come. It becomes a habit, and a rude one at that. Leaving people to wait five, ten, twenty minutes leaves them with a bitter feeling about you, and who wants that? Would you leave your partner standing at the wedding alter waiting for you simply because you were running late? Or maybe its ok to show up to a 911 call late if your a police officer, and let the bad guy get away. These exmples are far fetched, but tardiness is just as ridiculous. It is rude, immature, disrespectful, and needs to be stopped.
So how do we put a damer on tardiness? Do we buy our friend a watch that is set five minutes fast, strongly punsih those who are late, or simply only rely on ourselves to get where we need to go on time. After waiting in the cold rain for an extra fifteen minutes, waiting to be picked up by your friemd, you start to realize you cannot take someones word of what time they will pick you up. It may finally occur to you that they really do not know how to organize their time, and you really are the only person that can get you to practice at six o'clock.
Lateness seems to be a disease many people have. It is truely badmanned and even graceless. Punctuality is the key to success, so why must we all be late constantly? Maybe if we all tried to leave just a few minutes earlier there wouldn't be a need for fight, firings, and foolish excuses.
